    Reflection

The claim that every person has inherent value is so familiar in modern culture that it can be easy to forget how radical its roots actually are. The biblical basis for human worth is not achievement, appearance or usefulness, but being made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). That single idea has quietly shaped centuries of thinking about dignity, human rights and the treatment of the vulnerable, whether or not people crediting it realise where it came from. For an individual struggling to believe their own worth, this is not a slogan but a foundation: value that does not rise and fall with performance, relationships or circumstances. Psalm 139 describes each person as known intimately before birth, formed with care rather than assembled by accident. That kind of worth cannot be earned and, just as importantly, cannot be lost. It is worth returning to on the days when self-doubt feels louder than anything else.

    • How would your self-talk change if you fully believed your value was secure?
    • Who in your life needs reminding today that they matter?
