Reflection
Genuine truth-seeking, rather than settling for whatever is convenient or comfortable, is something scripture actively encourages rather than fears. Jesus's promise that those who seek will find (Matthew 7:7-8) assumes that honest searching is met with response rather than silence, and his description of himself as the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6) sets an unusually high bar: not merely offering true teachings, but claiming to be truth itself. Honest seeking requires a willingness to follow evidence and conviction wherever they lead, even when that is uncomfortable or costly, rather than seeking only confirmation of what one already wants to believe. It also requires patience, since some questions do not resolve quickly and some answers only become clear with time and experience. For the genuine seeker, the process itself, reading, questioning, testing, praying, is not wasted time even when it feels uncertain; scripture consistently portrays God as someone who rewards those who earnestly seek him (Hebrews 11:6).
