    The only name with power

    Reflection

The claim that there is power in the name of Jesus specifically, rather than in names or titles more generally, is rooted in the New Testament's repeated insistence that salvation and authority are found in him uniquely. Peter tells the religious council that there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and Paul writes that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow (Philippians 2:10). This is one of the more exclusive claims Christianity makes, and it sits uncomfortably with a culture that often prefers broader, less specific spiritual language. But the claim is not primarily about excluding people; it is about identifying, with precision, where Christians believe hope, forgiveness and ultimate authority actually reside. For believers, invoking that name in prayer or crisis is not a magic formula but an expression of trust in a particular person, with a particular history, rather than in a vague or generalised sense of the divine.
