Never be ashamed of your faith

Reflection
Feeling embarrassed or hesitant about faith is a common experience, particularly in settings where belief is treated as private at best or naive at worst. Paul wrote to the church in Rome that he was not ashamed of the gospel, describing it as the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes (Romans 1:16), a statement that suggests shame around faith was already a live temptation even in the earliest church, not simply a modern problem. Being unashamed does not mean being pushy, argumentative, or insensitive to others. It is possible to hold convictions with quiet confidence rather than aggression, and Christian tradition generally commends humility alongside boldness. What matters is an inner honesty about what one believes, rather than performing a different version of oneself depending on the company. There is a particular kind of freedom in no longer needing to hide or soften what one actually holds to be true, even while remaining respectful, curious, and genuinely interested in the views of others.
