The closer you get to God the weirder you get to people

    Reflection

There is a real experience many believers describe of feeling increasingly out of step with wider culture as their faith deepens, values shifting, priorities changing, patience for certain conversations wearing thin. It can feel isolating, and it is worth being honest that this discomfort is a real cost of discipleship rather than a sign that something has gone wrong. Paul told the Romans not to be conformed to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds (Romans 12:2), language that assumes friction with surrounding culture is normal, even expected, for anyone taking that transformation seriously. Feeling weirder to others is not itself a virtue, and Christians should be careful not to mistake mere social awkwardness for holiness. But when the distance comes from a genuinely deepened love, patience and integrity, it is worth remembering that such distance has always been part of the path, not a sign of having gone astray.
