Billionaire with the right ethic

Stories of wealthy individuals living out a strong personal ethic, whether through generosity, integrity in business or a refusal to let money define their character, tend to attract attention precisely because they cut against the assumption that vast wealth and moral seriousness rarely coexist. It is a fair scepticism, since scripture itself is unusually blunt about the dangers riches pose to the soul. Jesus warned how hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God, comparing it to a camel passing through the eye of a needle (Mark 10:25), yet he never taught that wealth itself was sinful, only that it easily becomes a rival god demanding ultimate trust. Someone using significant resources with genuine integrity and generosity is not proof that wealth is safe, but it is a reminder that character, not net worth, ultimately determines how any resource, large or small, gets used in the end.
Questions to sit with
- How do you think wealth, however much or little you have, shapes your own priorities?
- What would genuine generosity actually cost you if you practised it more fully?
- Do you judge people's character more by their resources or by how they use them?
