    Reflection

Public life and quiet faith rarely sit comfortably together, and a journey from pageant stage to parish pew suggests a reordering of what matters most. Fame offers a particular kind of validation, external, conditional, and often fleeting, while the Christian account of identity rests elsewhere: 'you are not your own; you were bought at a price' (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). That is not a rejection of public life but a reframing of it, asking what any platform, however small or large, is actually for. Carrie Prejean's public profile has included controversy as well as attention, and any account of her faith deserves to be read without assuming it resolves every earlier dispute. What is worth reflecting on more broadly is how easily identity gets built on performance and applause, and how disorienting, and potentially freeing, it can be to find a steadier foundation. That search is not unique to the famous; it belongs to anyone who has ever needed to be noticed to feel real.

    Questions to sit with

    • Where do you look for validation, and how reliable has it proved?
    • What would it mean practically to build your identity on being 'bought at a price' rather than on achievement?
    • Has a season out of the public eye ever changed your sense of what matters?
