    Reflection

Lee Strobel built a career on scepticism before turning that same rigour toward the historical claims of Christianity, and his work has become a touchstone for people who want evidence rather than sentiment. Questions about the resurrection are, at heart, historical questions: what sources exist, how early they are, whether they cohere. Paul treated the matter the same way, insisting that if the resurrection did not happen, 'we are of all people most to be pitied' (1 Corinthians 15:19), staking the whole faith on a claim that could, in principle, be wrong. That willingness to be falsifiable is part of what makes serious historical inquiry into Jesus worth taking seriously rather than dismissing as mere tradition. None of this replaces personal trust in Christ, but it does mean that such trust need not be blind. For sceptics and believers alike, the invitation is the same: examine the evidence honestly, and let the conclusion follow the inquiry rather than the other way round.

    Questions to sit with

    • What kind of evidence would you find persuasive, or unpersuasive, about a claim like the resurrection?
    • How comfortable are you with a faith that invites scrutiny rather than demanding blind trust?
    • Have you ever changed your mind after examining evidence you expected to disagree with?
