    Reflection

A title like this trades on shock, but underneath it points to something ancient and true: no one is beyond reach. The Bible is full of people the respectable world had written off, tax collectors, prostitutes, outcasts, who found themselves met by grace rather than condemnation. Jesus told the religious leaders of his day that the very people they despised were entering the kingdom ahead of them. That is not a comfortable message for anyone who has sorted humanity into acceptable and unacceptable categories. Whatever the specifics of one woman's story, the pattern it echoes is old: a life reduced to an industry finding a new identity that industry cannot give. Conversion stories can be messy, partial, and ongoing rather than instant and tidy, and that is worth remembering before drawing conclusions. What remains true regardless of detail is that dignity is not something we earn back; it is something restored.

    Questions to sit with

    • What assumptions do we make about people based on how they earn a living?
    • How does the story of Jesus welcoming outcasts challenge the way we categorise others?
    • What would it look like to offer someone grace before they have proven themselves changed?
