Reflection
Cliffe Knechtle has spent decades on university campuses fielding hard questions about faith, and it is not surprising that his direct, unhurried approach has left a mark on people searching for honest answers. Testimonies that credit a particular person with changing the course of a life should be received carefully; ultimately Scripture points to God as the one who saves, using people as instruments rather than sources. Paul makes this plain when he asks who Apollos is, and who Paul is, except servants through whom others came to believe. Still, it matters that someone took the time to engage doubts patiently rather than dismiss them, because faith rarely grows in a vacuum of unanswered questions. A life turned around often traces back to one conversation where someone felt truly heard. That kind of patient presence, more than clever argument alone, tends to be what people remember years later.
Questions to sit with
- Who has been a patient, honest voice in your own search for answers?
- What is the difference between crediting a messenger and crediting the message?
- How comfortable are you sitting with someone else's unresolved doubts?
