It all looks inviting

Reflection
Temptation rarely announces itself as harmful; it presents itself as attractive, reasonable, even good. This is the pattern seen from the very beginning, in Genesis's description of the forbidden fruit as pleasing to the eye and good for food (Genesis 3:6). The invitation to sin is almost never obviously destructive at first glance. It is dressed in appeal, and that is precisely what makes discernment necessary rather than optional. Recognising that something looks inviting is not the same as recognising whether it is good. Scripture calls believers to test everything and hold fast to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21), which assumes that not everything attractive passes that test. This takes honesty about our own susceptibility, since the things that tempt us most are usually tailored precisely to our particular weaknesses. Wisdom is often less about willpower in the moment and more about noticing patterns ahead of time and building habits that make good choices easier to reach for.
