Why isn't God answering my prayers?

Wondering why God is not answering prayer is one of the most common and painful experiences in the life of faith, and scripture does not pretend this struggle away. The Psalms are full of honest cries asking how long God will remain silent, showing that wrestling with unanswered prayer has always been part of authentic faith rather than a sign of its failure. Christian tradition suggests several honest, non exhaustive possibilities: that the answer is delayed, that it comes in a different form than expected, that unconfessed patterns or unresolved matters cloud the relationship, or simply that some suffering remains mysterious this side of eternity. Jesus himself prayed in Gethsemane for the cup to pass and did not receive that specific request, yet remained faithful. Persisting in prayer, even without resolution, remains an act of trust rather than proof that trust has failed.
