    Reflection

The night sky has prompted wonder and worship for as long as people have looked up at it, and it is fitting that some scientists find their study of the cosmos deepening rather than dissolving their faith. The psalmist wrote, 'the heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands' (Psalm 19:1), long before telescopes could reveal the scale that verse only gestured towards. Arguments from design or fine tuning are not new, though each generation frames them with fresh evidence and vocabulary. Christians should hold such arguments carefully; they can support faith without being asked to bear its entire weight, since belief ultimately rests on relationship with God rather than proof alone. Still, there is something genuinely moving about a scientist who spends a career studying the universe's precision and comes away convinced it points beyond itself. Wonder, in that sense, remains one of the oldest and most honest doorways into faith.

    Questions to sit with

    • What role, if any, should scientific evidence play in someone's journey towards faith?
    • How does Psalm 19's language of the heavens declaring God's glory resonate with modern discoveries about the universe?
    • Why might wonder be considered an honest starting point for belief rather than proof alone?
