    Reflection

Cliffe Knechtle has built a public ministry on street-level, unscripted questions, the kind that arise not from academic theology but from real doubt: about demons, about Israel, about Judas, about free will, about death itself. Taking such questions seriously, rather than treating them as naive, is itself a form of respect. The story of Judas in particular has troubled readers for centuries, since scripture presents both his responsibility and a mysterious sense in which the events served a larger purpose, a tension the Gospels do not resolve tidily. Jesus, for his part, never dismissed hard questions; when asked directly, he engaged people's doubts, telling Thomas, 'Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed' (John 20:29), while still allowing Thomas to examine the evidence for himself. Honest engagement with difficult topics, rather than a scripted defence, tends to build more durable trust, both because it treats the questioner as capable of thinking and because it models a faith unafraid of scrutiny.

    Questions to sit with

    • Which of these hard topics, demons, free will, death, unsettles you most?
    • How do you understand Judas's story, given both his responsibility and its place in a larger narrative?
    • What helped Thomas move from doubt to belief, and does anything similar apply to you?
