    Reflection

Lee Strobel's willingness to discuss possession, miracles, and angelic or demonic encounters reflects a broader Christian conviction that reality includes more than the strictly material, without that conviction licensing credulity about every claim made in its name. Scripture treats the spiritual realm as real but also warns against fascination for its own sake; Paul tells believers to be wise about what is good and 'innocent about what is evil' (Romans 16:19), a careful balance rather than either denial or obsession. Miracles, when they occur, point beyond themselves to God's character rather than functioning as entertainment or proof on demand. Christians can hold a firm belief that God still acts in the world while remaining appropriately sceptical of individual claims, testing them rather than accepting them uncritically. What such conversations do well is remind a sceptical modern audience that materialism is itself a contested assumption, not a proven conclusion, and that many thoughtful people have found reason to believe otherwise.

    Questions to sit with

    • How do you hold belief in the miraculous together with healthy scepticism about individual claims?
    • What would change in your daily life if you took the reality of spiritual conflict more seriously?
    • Where is the line between wise engagement with these topics and unhealthy fascination?
