    Darwinism - Change of kinds?

    Instagram · Under 5 minutes

    Reflection

The question of whether Darwinian evolution involves genuine change of kinds, meaning one type of creature transforming fundamentally into another, or only variation and adaptation within existing kinds, remains debated among Christians who hold differing views on origins. Some fully accept mainstream evolutionary biology as compatible with divine creation, while others question aspects of it on scientific or theological grounds. This debate touches on how Genesis is read, whether as a literal historical and scientific account, a theological narrative using ancient literary conventions, or something in between. What most orthodox Christians across this spectrum agree on is that God is the ultimate creator and sustainer of life, however the process unfolded, and that humans bear a unique dignity as bearers of God's image, distinct from animals regardless of biological continuity (Genesis 1:27). Rather than treating this as a settled culture war issue, it can be approached with humility, recognising sincere Christians hold different positions while sharing the same core conviction that life did not arise by accident but was purposefully created and sustained by God throughout its history.
