The Bible was written by men...

    Reflection

The observation that the Bible was written by men is factually true and worth taking seriously rather than treating as either an embarrassing admission or a knockdown objection. Christian doctrine has always held to a dual authorship, human writers using their own style, vocabulary and historical context, working under what the tradition calls the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, producing texts that are fully human in composition and fully trustworthy in what they teach. Second Timothy describes all Scripture as God breathed, useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training, language that assumes human writing can carry divine authority without one cancelling out the other. This is similar, in principle, to how Christians understand Jesus himself as fully human and fully divine, a pattern that runs throughout Christian theology rather than being invented specifically to answer this objection. Taking the human authorship seriously actually enriches rather than undermines careful reading, since understanding each writer's context sharpens rather than weakens genuine interpretation.
