    In a world pushing agenda

    Reflection

Feeling that the world is pushing an agenda is a common sentiment, particularly among people who sense that certain values or assumptions are being promoted more insistently than others across media, education and public life. Christians throughout history have often felt this tension between the surrounding culture and their own convictions, and Scripture itself anticipates it rather than treating it as a modern surprise. Paul urged believers not to be conformed to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of their mind, language that assumes ongoing cultural pressure requiring active, thoughtful resistance rather than passive absorption. This does not mean treating every cultural development with suspicion or retreating from public life altogether, since Christians are also called to genuine engagement and love of neighbour. It does mean cultivating discernment, testing what is heard and seen against Scripture and settled Christian conviction, rather than either uncritical acceptance or reflexive rejection of everything the wider culture presents.
