    Reflection

Few questions press on the human heart as persistently as what happens when we die. Every culture has wrestled with it, and every grieving family eventually asks it aloud. Christian hope does not treat death as the final word but as a doorway, grounded not in wishful thinking but in the resurrection of Christ. Paul writes that 'to be absent from the body' is 'to be present with the Lord' (2 Corinthians 5:8), and Jesus tells the thief beside him, 'today you will be with me in paradise' (Luke 23:43). These are not detailed maps of the afterlife but assurances rooted in relationship with a living Saviour. Testimonies and near death accounts can stir curiosity, yet the Christian's confidence rests less on experience and more on the character of God, who has already defeated death. Facing our mortality honestly, rather than avoiding it, can actually deepen how fully we live now, freeing us from fear and drawing us towards what truly matters.

    Questions to sit with

    • What do you find yourself hoping for when you think about death?
    • How does the resurrection of Jesus shape the way Christians talk about dying?
    • In what ways might facing mortality honestly change how someone lives today?
