    Reflection

Encounters framed as brushes with the demonic sit at an uncomfortable edge of Christian conversation, easy either to sensationalise or to dismiss out of modern embarrassment. Scripture takes the reality of spiritual opposition seriously without turning it into entertainment; Paul writes plainly that 'our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world' (Ephesians 6:12). That verse frames spiritual conflict as ordinary rather than exotic, something believers are equipped to resist rather than merely fear. A story about an unsettling encounter with a psychic deserves to be heard with that framework in mind: not as proof of anything beyond the account itself, but as a reminder that curiosity about the occult is not spiritually neutral. Christians are wise to approach such territory with caution rather than fascination, trusting that whatever is real and dark in the world has already been decisively confronted at the cross.

    Questions to sit with

    • How seriously do you take the idea of spiritual opposition in ordinary life?
    • What draws people toward occult curiosity, and what makes that risky?
    • Where does confidence in Christ's victory change how you think about spiritual darkness?
