Reflection
This clip comes from Candace Owens' show, where a guest described as a former CIA agent talks about how Christianity is viewed inside the intelligence world. What any agency privately thinks about the faith isn't something we can check, and it isn't the thing worth resting on. What is worth noticing is the pattern this conversation sits inside: Christianity keeps being explained away by people who claim to have it worked out — dismissed as a tool of control, a Western export, or something clever people grow out of. And yet the faith has outlasted every empire and every theory invented to replace it, while ordinary people keep meeting Jesus for themselves. The Christian answer to that kind of suspicion isn't conspiracy thinking or outrage. Peter tells believers to be ready to give a reason for the hope in them, but to do it "with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15). Jesus warned His followers that the world would misunderstand them (John 15:18-19), and still told them to live so openly and generously that people notice the difference and give glory to God (Matthew 5:14-16). So the honest question was never what some agency thinks about Christians. It's what you make of Jesus Himself.
Questions to sit with
- When someone dismisses Christianity, do you tend to argue back or ask questions — and what does 1 Peter 3:15 ask of you here?
- Christianity has been opposed by empires, ideologies and intellectuals for two thousand years and is still spreading. What might that say about it?
- If you set aside every theory about why people believe, what do you make of Jesus on His own terms?
