    Reflection

It has become fashionable in some circles to treat science as the natural enemy of religious belief, yet a growing number of scientists and philosophers describe the opposite experience, that careful study of the cosmos points them toward rather than away from a creator. The astonishing precision required for a universe capable of supporting life, often called fine tuning, is one example frequently discussed in these conversations. None of this settles every question or removes the need for faith, since faith by definition goes beyond what can be proven in a laboratory. But it does challenge the assumption that intelligent, informed people must choose between believing in God and taking science seriously. The opening words of Genesis describe a universe brought into ordered existence by a purposeful God (Genesis 1:1), and many find that as science uncovers ever more intricate order, that ancient claim reads less like myth and more like a reasonable account of what we actually observe.
