    Reflection

Framing the Book of Enoch as a banned Bible plays into a popular narrative of hidden or suppressed knowledge that tends to generate interest but does not accurately describe how the biblical canon actually developed over centuries of careful discernment by many communities. Enoch was known and valued by some early communities, referenced once in the letter of Jude, yet it was not accepted into either the Jewish or the mainstream Christian canon, a decision made through recognised processes rather than suppression by any single authority. Wesley Huff's academic grounding allows him to walk through this history with more precision than sensational framing usually allows. Understanding why a book falls outside the canon is different from concluding it holds no historical or literary value at all; the two questions are genuinely separate. Curiosity about ancient religious literature is healthy and worth pursuing, but it serves truth best when paired with sober historical method rather than the language of conspiracy.

    Questions to sit with

    • What is the difference between a text being historically interesting and being scripturally authoritative?
    • How do you evaluate claims that certain texts were deliberately suppressed?
    • What process do you think should determine which texts are considered sacred Scripture?
