Does Tracy Cortez think she's going to heaven?

Asking a public figure whether they think they are going to heaven is a blunt but revealing question, because it exposes how differently people actually reason about eternity compared with how they reason about most other things in life. Many assume a vague sense of being a good person will be enough, without examining that assumption very closely. Christian teaching offers a different foundation altogether, that entry to heaven rests not on a personal ledger of good and bad but on grace received through faith in Christ. Paul is blunt about this, writing that it is by grace we are saved, through faith, and this not of ourselves, it is the gift of God, not a result of works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Whatever any individual answers when asked this question, it is worth each of us examining honestly what we are actually resting our hope on, rather than assuming the answer without ever really checking.
Questions to sit with
- If someone asked you directly whether you think you're going to heaven, what would you say?
- What are you actually resting your hope for eternity upon?
- Have you ever examined that hope closely, or simply assumed it?
