    Reflection

Stories of narrow escapes from violence often circulate among believers as testimonies of divine protection, and they raise a genuine and difficult question: why does God appear to intervene in some situations and not others? It is a question that has no tidy answer, and Christian tradition has always resisted glib explanations for either deliverance or suffering. What scripture does offer is the assurance that God is present in danger, not detached from it. Psalm 91 speaks of refuge under God's wings, while the wider biblical witness includes both miraculous rescues and the honest reality of martyrdom. Christians are not called to expect guaranteed safety, but to trust that their lives, whether spared or taken, are held by a God who is good. Testimonies of protection are received with gratitude, without turning them into a formula that God owes everyone the same outcome.

    • What helps you trust God's presence even when you cannot explain his ways?
    • Have you ever looked back and recognised a moment of unexpected protection?
