    Reflection

Choosing to tip generously even after receiving poor service is a small but telling act, and it says something about the difference between reward and grace. Ordinary fairness suggests good service should be rewarded and poor service should not, yet grace often works the other way, offering kindness precisely where it has not been earned. This mirrors something central to the Christian gospel. Romans 5:8 says that God demonstrates his own love in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, love extended before any improvement was shown. Choosing generosity towards someone who has fallen short does not excuse poor service or pretend it was good, but it can reflect a wider posture of grace that refuses to make kindness conditional on merit, something Christians are called to practise in small daily choices.
