The Chosen

Reflection

Telling the story of Jesus through the eyes of those who knew him is a compelling choice, because the Gospels themselves are full of ordinary, flawed people whose encounters with Christ reshaped everything about how they saw the world. Fishermen, tax collectors, sceptics and outcasts populate these accounts, each offering a different vantage point on the same extraordinary figure. Peter's confession, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God' (Matthew 16:16), came only after considerable time spent simply watching and walking alongside Jesus, which is itself instructive: faith often grows through sustained proximity rather than a single dramatic moment. A series built on this premise gives space to imagine the texture of those relationships, the doubts, arguments and gradual dawning of understanding that Scripture often only summarises briefly. For viewers already familiar with the Gospel accounts, seeing them through human eyes can restore a sense of wonder that familiarity sometimes dulls, reminding us that the people who first followed Jesus were not so different from us.
