    About Hillsong UNITED

Australian worship collective associated with Hillsong Church, known globally for congregational worship anthems including 'Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)', one of the best-selling and most-played contemporary Christian songs of all time.

    Faith journey and beliefs

A worship ministry explicitly rooted in evangelical Christian theology; songwriters describe 'Oceans' as being about 'faith and raw trust in God' drawn from the biblical account of Peter walking on water.

    What this song is about

A remix of 'Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)'; per songwriter Joel Houston, the original is 'a song about stepping into the unknown... about faith and raw trust in God', inspired by Peter walking on water (Matthew 14:22–31), a meaning retained in this remixed arrangement.

    Reflection

Returning again to the imagery of 'Oceans', this remix reworks a song built around Peter's step out of the boat, trusting Jesus enough to walk on water that could easily fail beneath him (Matthew 14:28-29). A remix suggests renewal in a different sense, an old, familiar prayer given fresh sonic clothing for a new context or generation of listeners, much as the underlying truth it carries, trust beyond visible support, remains constant even as its expression changes. There is something fitting about a song on trust being reinterpreted repeatedly; faith itself is rarely static, requiring fresh expression as circumstances and seasons change even while its foundation stays the same. The deep water Peter faced represents whatever currently exceeds a person's own capability or control, financial strain, illness, decision, loss. Calling out to be led beyond that fear into deeper trust remains as relevant now as when Peter first felt the wind and began to sink.
