    Reflection

Mountain-top experiences, whether spiritual, emotional or simply moments of clarity and joy, are memorable precisely because they do not last forever, and much of life is spent in the valleys between them. The Bible itself contains a striking mountain-top scene in the Transfiguration, where Peter, overwhelmed by the glory he witnessed, wanted to build shelters and stay (Matthew 17:4), only to be led back down the mountain into ordinary, harder circumstances shortly after. That story is instructive: peak experiences are real and valuable, but they are not meant to be permanent residences, they are meant to fuel what comes next. A song that celebrates being on the mountain top captures something genuinely good, gratitude, elation, a sense of God's nearness, without needing to pretend such moments are constant. The honest question it leaves is not how to stay on the mountain forever, but how to carry what was learned there back down into the valley, where most of life actually happens.

    Questions to sit with

    • What has been a genuine mountain-top moment in your own faith or life?
    • How do you carry the clarity of a good moment into harder, more ordinary days?
    • Why do you think such peak experiences tend to be temporary rather than constant?
