What this song is about
Josiah Queen has said "demons" came out of a real battle he was fighting in his own mind, and the reminder that he doesn't fight it alone. The song started when a friend sent him the voice-memo line "tell those demons run and hide, they tremble at the name of Jesus," which gave him chills: "This song came from a real battle in my mind... When I prayed, God didn't just hear me – He answered. It's a declaration that fear and darkness don't get the final word when your trust and hope is in Jesus."

Reflection
Few words carry as much weight as demons, whether taken literally or as shorthand for the inner battles people carry: shame, addiction, fear, self doubt. Scripture treats spiritual darkness seriously, but it never leaves believers without hope in the face of it. James 4:7 offers a short, direct instruction: resist the devil, and he will flee from you. That is not a promise of an easy fight, but it is a promise of eventual victory. A song that names its subject so plainly invites listeners to stop pretending their struggles are small or manageable on their own strength. Naming a thing honestly is often the first step toward being free of its grip, because secrecy tends to give darkness more power than it deserves. Christian music that goes to this uncomfortable place can do real good, meeting people where despair actually lives rather than offering only cheerful reassurance. It points, ultimately, not to human willpower but to the authority of Christ over every darkness a person carries.
