No proof Jesus existed

Reflection
The claim that there is no proof Jesus existed is a common one online, but it does not reflect the general consensus among historians, including many who are not Christian. References to Jesus appear in non-Christian sources such as the writings of the Jewish historian Josephus and the Roman historian Tacitus, alongside the extensive New Testament material, which itself contains historical writing produced within living memory of the events described. The genuine scholarly debate concerns not whether Jesus existed but how to interpret the significance of his life, teaching, death, and the disciples' claims about his resurrection. That is a very different question from existence itself. It is worth being cautious of confident claims, in either direction, that oversimplify a genuinely complex historical picture. Approaching the question with patience and a willingness to read primary sources, rather than relying solely on social media summaries, tends to produce a far more accurate and interesting picture than the more sweeping claims suggest.
