    Reflection

The suggestion that your genetic code has meaning speaks to a much older conviction than modern genetics: that human beings are not accidents but are fashioned with purpose. Psalm 139 expresses this beautifully, describing being knitted together in the womb and fearfully and wonderfully made, long before anyone understood DNA. Whatever one makes of the science, the theological claim underneath it is that identity is not self generated or random but given, rooted in the intention of a Creator who knows each person intimately. This does not mean every trait or circumstance is directly designed for a specific outcome, but it does mean that human worth is not contingent on usefulness, appearance, or achievement. Recognising this can reshape how a person views both themselves and others, as bearers of inherent dignity rather than products of chance.

    Questions to sit with

    • How does Psalm 139 change the way you think about your own body and identity?
    • Where do you struggle to believe your worth is not tied to achievement?
    • What difference would it make to see every person as fearfully and wonderfully made?
